Men's Lacrosse Topped by No. 3 Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team was defeated 27-8 by No. 3 University of Lynchburg on Wednesday night in ODAC action on the road.

Cody Griffis earned a hat trick for SU (5-11, 3-6 ODAC), but LYN (12-1, 7-0) took the win behind a ten-goal second quarter, after the game was tied at four at the end of the first.

Lynchburg got the first goal, but after an SU faceoff win, Braxton Snead scored off a Ryan Ho assist to tie the game at one. However, 26 seconds later Lynchburg regained the lead, 2-1.

A Ryan Feldman save helped SU get possession, which led to Sam Poster scoring, tying the game with 8:43 left in the first. However, once again the tie didn't last long as Lynchburg scored less than a minute later to take a 3-2 advantage.

With under three minutes to play in the opening quarter Luke Petrie connected with Cody Griffis for a man-up goal, tying the contest at three. Petrie quickly caused a turnover, leading to Kennedy Duda scoring another man-up goal to give SU a 4-3 lead on a Liam Arnsmeyer assist. With time expiring in the first, Lynchburg was able to tie the game at four.

The hosts began the second quarter with three goals in the first 80 seconds prior to Griffis scoring his second goal on a feed from Lucas Brooks. Lynchburg responded with another 3-0 run, but Arsmeyer halted the run with SU's sixth goal of the half. Lynchburg added four goals in the final three minutes of the second to lead 14-6 at half.

Feldman made five saves in the early portion of the third quarter, holding Lynchburg to one goal in the first nine minutes of the frame, with Petrie scoring for SU. Lynchburg cameback after Petrie's goal with four of its own, but Griffis was able to add SU's last goal of the game with 10 seconds left in the third.

Lynchburg outscored SU 8-0 in the final quarter, capping its 27-8 win.

Feldman made 15 saves in net for Shenandoah. Feldman tied with Bruce Nyandemo for the team-high in groundballs with four.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah hosts Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday at 4 p.m. for senior day.
