WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team's 11-game win streak was snapped on Saturday after being swept by No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University in an ODAC doubleheader.

The Marlins (36-0, 18-0 ODAC) won game one 9-2, before run-ruling the Hornets (26-8, 11-5) in game two, 16-4.

GAME ONE RECAP

After the Marlins took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, SU got on the board in the third thanks to an RBI single from Brenna Westwood, which scored Payton Jensen. The single kept bases loaded for SU and Makayla Cox made it a one-run game with a sacrifice fly. However, two more outs kept two runners in scoring position.

The Marlins added two more runs in the fourth, but SU worked around a lead-off walk in the fifth to keep the Marlins from scoring in the frame. However, four runs across the final two innings extended VWU's lead.

Cadence Rieg led the Hornets with two hits in the ballgame.

GAME TWO RECAP

A grand slam and a bases loaded walk helped the Marlins take a 5-0 lead after the first. Cadence Rieg pitched a scoreless second, third, and to keep the deficit at five.

In the bottom of the fourth, SU picked up RBI from Paige Eagleton and Ella Montgomery to cut VWU's lead down to three.

In the top of the fifth, the Marlins scored 11 runs on six hits and three SU errors. The visitors hit two home runs in the frame, including another grand slam.

A Payton Jensen triple plus an EBI from Rieg gave the Hornets their final two runs of the day in the bottom of the fifth.
