Softball Sweeps Gettysburg in Non-Conference Play

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team earned a sweep at home on Thursday, defeating Gettysburg College 12-4 in game one and 6-1 in game two of the non-conference dual.

The Hornets (18-6) were led by complete game performances by Graice Ravenkamp (8-2) and Meghan Gaskins (5-0), along with a combined three home runs by Paige Eagleton, Payton Jensen, and Cadence Rieg.

GAME ONE RECAP

A pair of singles and a wild pitch led to a sacrifice fly by the Bullets (9-13), giving them an early 1-0 lead in the first.

With two outs in the bottom of the second, Paige Eagleton earned the first hit of the day for SU with a two-out, game-tying home run to center field. The two-out magic continued for the Hornets with Sarah Medellin, Payton Jensen, and Allison McQueeney loading the bases with three straight singles. Bases loaded walks by Cadence Rieg and Makayla Cox, along with a wild pitch, put the Hornets up 4-1.

A two-RBI single with two outs in the third cut Gettyburg's deficit down to one. The Hornets responded with a Jensen two-out RBI in the home half of the inning. Keagan Cooper delivered a two-RBI double in the fourth, pushing SU's lead to 7-3. Medellin then hit a single to drive in Cooper for an 8-3 lead in the fourth.

Rieg added a run for the Hornets in the fifth, while the Bullets responded with one in the sixth. However, four straight hits to start the bottom of the sixth ended the game early with Eagleton, Kelly Hartman, and Medellin scoring to make it 12-4.

Gracie Ravenkamp pitched six innings with two strikeouts.

Medellin, Jensen, Rieg, and Eagleton had multi-hit games.

GAME TWO RECAP

Both teams left runners in scoring position in the first, and the Bullets were sat down in order in the second.

In the home half of the second, Paige Eagleton and Sarah Medellin reached on one-out singles for the Hornets. Payton Jensen then smashed a three-run home run to put a trio of runs on the board for the Hornets.

Following Jensen's home run, Allison McQueeney reached on an error, and three pitches later, Cadence Rieg hit the second home run of the inning, putting SU on top 5-0. Each team scored in the third, with SU's run coming across on an error.
