Women's Lacrosse Wraps Up Regular Season with Loss to Roanoke

SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team rounded out its regular season with a 16-5 loss to Roanoke College on the road in an ODAC game.

The Hornets (10-7, 5-3 ODAC) will enter the ODAC Tournament as the fifth seed, while the Maroons (9-8, 6-2) earned a two-round bye after securing the two seed in the win.

RECAP

The Hornets quickly fell behind with the Maroons scoring three goals in the game's first eight minutes. With minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Sofia Albi scored for SU and cut the deficit down to two, with an assist from Natalie Opatovsky.

Late in the first, a save by Maddie Gaboury and groundball by Victoria Wunderlich led to the Hornets scoring with 23 seconds left in the quarter, thanks to Emily Ransom finding the back of the net.

Up 3-2, the Maroons outscored the Hornets 9-0 over the next 30 minutes, jumping out to a 12-2 lead. The Maroons' run was snapped by Ransom as she picked up her second goal of the evening.

Following Roanoke scoring 30 seconds into the fourth, Sara Groninger scored her first career goal on a free-position shot. The Maroons answered right back, but Albi scored on the next possession off an assist from Alyssa Webster, making it 14-5. The Maroons closed out the game with two more goals.

Alex Ripkin had a team-high five draw controls as the Hornets had 12 draw controls as a team. Addison Harmel scooped up five groundballs for the Hornets.

UP NEXT

The Hornets host Guilford in the first round of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday. The Hornets beat the Quakers 21-5 earlier this season.
