Women's Lacrosse Advances to ODAC Quarterfinals

WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 5 Shenandoah Unniversity women's lacrosse team defeated No. 8 Guilford College, 24-5, in the first round of the ODAC Tournament to advance to the quarterfinals where they will face Lynchburg.

Emily Ransom scored her 100th career goal in the Hornets' (11-7) tournament win. Additionally, Alex Ripkin picked up her 100th career draw control in the victory over the Quakers (8-9).

RECAP

Guilford scored the game's first goal but Emily Ransom struck for the Hornets to tie the game. Then on the next possession, Natalie Opatovsky put the Hornets up 2-1, before Addison Harmel added three straight to make it 5-1.

Shenandoah ended the first quarter with three goals in the final four minutes with two from Ayla Jantz and one more from Opatovsky. The Hornets led 8-1 at the end of one.

Guilford controlled the early portion of the second, scoring three of the first four goals in the frame. However, Ransom scored with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half for her 100th career goal.

SU's offense turned it up a notch in the final minutes of the second, scoring four unanswered. Ripkin picked up the first goal on a free-position shot, with Brinley Tozer adding the second. Then, Opatovsky added the final two goals of the first half.

Jantz scored 11 seconds into the third quarter to put SU up 14-4, starting the running clock. The Hornets added seven more goals in the frame, taking a 21-4 lead into the fourth.

Tozer completed her hat trick with two goals at the start of the fourth prior to Acadia Massie scoring SU's last goal of the game. Guilford scored its final goal with little time left on the clock.

Harmel, Jantz, and Opatovsky led the Hornets with four goals each. Jantz also added a team-high three assists. Talia Maria racked up a game-high seven draw controls, with Jantz closely behind with six.
