Multiple Hornets Earn All-ODAC Honors at Day One of Championships

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University outdoor track and field teams earned three All-ODAC honors at day one of the 2026 ODAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Eastern Mennonite University on Friday.

Field athletes Molly Donaldson and Grady Speer, along with distance runner Maddy Chorney were the Hornets to walk away with All-ODAC accolades on Friday. Additionally, Donaldson and Roman Bernard broke school records at the championships.

The Hornets' women's team is in fifth place with 20 team points, while the men sit in seventh with nine points.

FIELD RECAP

Molly Donaldson set the program record in the women's shot put with a distance of 12.79m, which passed the previous record of 12.17m, which was set in 2012. Donaldson finished second, earning All-ODAC Second Team. Donaldson also hit a mark of 41.80m in the hammer throw, placing seventh and becoming sixth all-time for the Hornets.

Grady Speer came out of the men's hammer throw with All-ODAC third team honors after throwing a mark of 47.71m, which broke his previous best of 39.85m. His distance also moved him into fourth all-time in the Hornets' record book.

Also in the men's hammer, Luke Jacobs threw a 36.16m mark to place 15th, while Sawyer Paine came in 20th at 29.40m.

Speer also earned team points in the men's shot put, placing seventh with a throw of 13.10m, setting a new PR, and moving into sixth all-time for SU. Paine threw a 9.99m, placing 24th in the event.

Over in the women's javelin, Donaldson had the highest placement for the Hornets, earning seventh at 28.17m. Elaina Ramos wrapped up in ninth place at 24.62m and Sophia Sharp placed 15th at 20.40m.

Ramos and Kaitlyn Loy competed in the women's long jump and finished in 12th and 19th, respectively. Ramos jumped 4.98m and Loy hit 4.42m.

In the men's long jump, Zachary Sheehan reached 6.29m to finish in 19th. 

Mekhi Mims jumped in the men's high jump and finished in eighth, earning team points for the men with a jump of 1.87m.

TRACK RECAP

Maddy Chorney earned All-ODAC Third Team honors in the women's 10,000m with her time of 39:34.69. Also in the event, Makenna Thrush ran a 41:07.99 to place inside the top 10. Cora Helman ran a 44:28.01 for 12th, Lauren Tooman earned 13th at 44:39.99, and Sarah Lane placed 15th at 45:37.29.

Roman Bernard advanced to the men's 400m finals with a program record time of 48.14 in the prelims. The previous record was 48.24 which was set back in 2016.

Ruth McGhee is set to run in the finals of the women's 100m and 200m. The first-year ran a 12.48 in the prelims of the 100m and a 25.64 in the 200m. Myah Powell-Utley also ran in the prelims of the 100m and 200m, running a 12.64 and 26.32 in the respective events.

Arial Crawford wrapped up in seventh in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 13:13.83. In the men's steeplechase, Caleb Beiswenger (10:41.72), John Buckley (10:55.06), and Shane Lyons (11:33.38) earned 12th, 14th, and 16th place respectively, with Buckley's time setting a PR.

Will Ashley was the first Hornet to complete the men's 10,000m, finishing the race at 33:11.95. Brayden Shotwell earned 12th with a time of 34:09.64, while Zack Hamacher ran a 34:36.60 for 15th, and Ethan Beaugez finished with a time of 35:12.20 for 19th.

Sean Rosner placed 14th in the men's 100m, running an 11.08 in prelims. Wyatt Newcome finished the men's 200m at 22.85 for 15th.

UP NEXT

The Hornets conclude the championships tomorrow with field events kicking off the day at 10 a.m.
