No. 7 Baseball Falls to No. 2 Lynchburg to Split Weekend Series

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The No. 7 Shenandoah University lost 12-2 in seven innings to No. 2 University of Lynchburg, splitting the regular season finale series on Saturday in ODAC play.

SU (30-9, 13-7 ODAC) only scored in the sixth inning, as LYN (31-4-1, 18-1-1) jumped out to a 9-0 lead, propelling them to the run-rule win.

RECAP

Shenandoah left runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the third. Lynchburg took advantage of that and scored five runs to lead 5-0 at the end of three.

In the fourth inning, JP Williams reached on an error to start the inning, but a double play turned by the Lynchburg defense helped sit down the SU offense in order. The Shenandoah defense returned the favor and turned a double play in the bottom of the fourth, after allowing two straight walks.

Lynchburg added a run in the fifth inning with two outs following an error on a steal attempt. Shenandoah committed three more errors in the inning, allowing Lynchburg to score four total runs and take a 9-0 lead, all scoring with two outs.

A lead-off walk in the sixth to Dillon Mauzy led to Adham Sahebzadah hitting an RBI triple to put the Hornets on the board. Sahebzadah then scored on an RBI single by JP Williams, making it 9-2. However, a run in the bottom of the sixth, plus two in the seventh, put LYN up ten and ended the game in seven innings.

The Hornets await the official announcement of the ODAC Tournament to know their opponent for the first round series.
