Alexander Honored as ODAC Defensive Player of the Week

FOREST, Va. - Shenandoah University's Cassidy Alexander has been named Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) field hockey Defensive Player of the Week in selections made by the conference office on Monday.

The Hornets goalkeeper made a combined 10 saves in wins over Dickinson College and No. 7 Franklin & Marshall College.

In the first win of the week, a 3-2 decision at home against the Red Devils, the sophomore made two saves. Both of the stops came in the first two quarters of the game.

Then on Saturday, in a 1-0 double-overtime victory against the nationally ranked Diplomats, Alexander made a season-high eight saves. None of the saves were bigger than the two she made in the first overtime period, helping the Hornets pick up the upset victory.

This is the second time in Alexander's career that she has earned the conference's Defensive Player of the Week award.

The Hornets are in action this Saturday at home against the Sewanee Tigers. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start, with the team honoring its 2016 ODAC Championship-winning team during halftime.
