WINCHESTER, Va. - North Carolina Wesleyan combined a 50 percent shooting performance with just five turnovers to take an 86-65 Dixie Conference victory over host Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
Shenandoah (11-10, 4-7) jumped out to an early 10 point lead as junior Chad Brashears (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti)scored 13 of the Hornets first 17 points of the game.Â
Brashears hit his first seven shots from the field and 10 of 13 for game, but SU had no answer for NC Wesleyan's balanced attack. Wesleyan (14-8, 8-3) had four players in double figures, led by Keith Sudler's game high 28 points.Â
Sudler helped his side to comeback from the double digit first half deficit by scoring 21 of those 28 points following the break.Â
Even though the Bishops held an eight point lead at halftime, Wesleyan needed Sudler's heroics as the Hornets cut the deficit inside five points on five different occasions.
Unfortunately for the home crowd, SU could never quite get over the hump and then watched the visitors pull away in the final in the last three minutes.Â
The Bishops extended their seven point lead with 3:45 left to the final margin; Shenandoah scored just one point in the last 5:41 of the contest.
Sudler finished with 28, Bradley Blue 17, Latwan Scott 12 and Damion Rossin 10 for Wesleyan.Â
In addition to Brashears career high 22, Tyson Thompson (Keysville, Va./Randolph-Henry) had 14 with 10 assists and Michael Atkins a game high 12 boards.
