ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The only thing colder than the weather outside Saturday night was the SU men's basketball shooting touch; Shenandoah shot just 36.4 percent from the field in a 101-76 loss to Elizabethtown College.
SU (4-5) was held without a field goal for the first 11:50 of the game as E-town (8-4) scored the first 11 points of the game and led 16-3 before sophomore James Brodie (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) made the Hornets initial field goal at the 8:10 mark.
Despite the slow start, Coach Rob Harris' club found itself back in the game by going on an 11-3 run in 1:51 marks to trail 31-24 with 2:07 remaining. After the Blue Jays stopped that run with a pair of Kyle Conrad free throws, Brodie hit two of his own along with a Chris Rhone (Washington, D.C./Northwestern) three-pointer to make the score 35-29 at the break.
Unfortunately for the Hornets, this would be as close as they would get the rest of the way.
E-town scored eight of the first nine points of the second half, and never led by less than 11 points the rest of the way.
Sophomore Kenneth Purnell (Baltimore, Md./Lake Clifton) led all scorers with 23 points while Rhone had 19 and Brodie 10. Purnell scored his 23 points on seven field goals (five three's) and four free throws in his first action since joining the team this week.
