Men Advance to Championship

SALISBURY, Md. - Shenandoah University placed three players in double figures Friday afternoon to down C.C.N.Y. 73-57 in the opening round of the Salisbury University Tournament.

Shenandoah (4-1) now moves on to face the winner of the host Salisbury vs John Jay contest in Saturday's 8:00 championship game.

Sophomore Jeremiah Lawrence led the Hornets in the victory over the Beavers (2-1) with a game-high 22 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Junior Onyie Onunaku, who sat with foul trouble for most of the first half, added 11 points and nine boards while classmate Moutkar Fawehinmiadded 10.

SU never trailed after taking an 8-7 lead on a Fawehinmi jumper at the 15:28 mark of the first. The Hornets extended this lead to as many as 10 points before junior point guard Antwon Townsend scored the final four points of the half on one free throw and a three-pointer with six seconds left. This gave Shenandoah 38-26 advantage heading into the lockerroom.

The Beavers briefly made a game of it with a 12-4 run to start the second, but Lawrence answered with a pair of layups and SU coasted to the 16-point victory.
