WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team extended its winning streak to a season-high four games Friday night with a 73-59 victory over Lycoming College.
SU (8-2) got a pair of double-doubles from starting big menÂ
Onyie Onunaku andÂ
Jeremiah Lawrence to dispatch the Warriors (7-6).
Onunaku had 10 points and 11 rebounds while Lawrence, a sophomore, backed up his 13 points with a career-high 17 boards. This performance also helped the hosts dominate the glass for the second straight contest - SU held a 50-29 advantage against LC.
Down 9-2 just over three minutes into the contest, Shenandoah went on an 8-2 run over the next 2:25 to bring themselves back in it at 11-10. The two teams were tied on five occasions over the next seven minutes before SU finally took the lead for good on aÂ
Jared Hale three-pointer with 6:04 left.
A 9-4 Hornets run finished the half to give the hosts a 40-34 advantage.
Coach Rob Harris' club extended this advantage to 48-36 by the 13:32 mark, but Lycoming had one last run in them.
The Warriors cut the deficit to three with 9:56 remaining, largely on the strength of Jonathan Pribble hitting five consecutive free throws following aÂ
Moutkar Fawehinmi foul on a three-point attempt and a technical foul called immediately following the play.
Fortunately for the home fans, SU scored the next seven points of the game to erase any thoughts of an LC comeback.
Pribble led all scorers with 22 points, including 11 of 11 from the line while Greg Sye had 12.
In addition to Lawrence' 13 and Onunaku's 10, Hale had 10 andÂ
Stevie Johns 15.
