Frostburg Stops Men

FROSTBURG, Md. E Frostburg State erased a pair of double digit deficits Monday night to down visiting Shenandoah 74-65 in non-conference menís basketball action.

Frostburg (2-4) trailed by 11 points on two different occasions in the first half against Shenandoah (1-2) but rallied with a strong second half to take its second straight win over the Hornets in Frostburg.

The Bobcats now lead the all-time series between the two teams 44-34, although SU has won four of the last seven meetings.

The Hornets started fast in the first, jumping out to a double digit lead on by two different occasions before allowing their hosts back into it with a 13 turnovers and 21 missed shots. Frostburg ended the first half on a 9-6 run to make it 34-29 at the break.

The Bobcats began the second half with a 19-5 spurt to take a nine-point lead, 48-39, with 12:16 left. This lead eventually reached 12 by the 6:21 mark, and SU could get no closer than three points the rest of the way.

Coach Robert Harris' club got it to that three-point deficit following a Jeremiah Lawrence layup with 2:43 remaining, but Frostburg scored the next five points to seal the win.

Lawrence led SU with 13 points while Onyie Onunaku had 10 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals before fouling out in the final moments.

Dale DeBerry had 23 and Antione McCall 17 for FSU.
