WINCHESTER, Va. - For the second time in as many meetings this season, Ferrum College used a last second three-pointer to defeat Shenandoah University in USA South Conference men's basketball action.
It Keith Harris' turn Saturday afternoon, as he drained a three-ball from the left wing to give the Panthers a 67-66 victory over the host Hornets.
In the first meeting of the season, it was Rob Fuller who hit a trey with .8 seconds left to give FC (6-17, 2-8 USA South) a 58-55 win.
Saturday, it appeared that SU (9-12, 1-8) would even the season series when they took a four-point lead on aÂ
Jeremiah Lawrence stick-back of aÂ
Mike Nickens-Turner missed free throw with 17 seconds remaining.
But Ferrum had other plans.
Cedric Jones brought the Panthers within one with his old fashioned three-point play at the six second mark, and afterÂ
Antwon Townsend hit one of two free throws two seconds later, the stage was set for the comeback victory.
After a pair of time-outs, FC threw the ball three-quarter court where they immediately called time-out. Following one more time-out, the Panthers in-bounded to Harris, who calmly drained his three for the game-winning points.
SU answered with its own time out with one second left, but could not get off of shot on the in-bounds play.
Fuller led all scorers with 25 points while Lawrence continued his strong season with 23 points and 14 rebounds. He now has a league-leading 11 double-doubles.
