SALISBURY, Md. - Both the Shenandoah University men's and
women's cross country teams posted fifth place finishes Saturday
afternoon at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury
University.
The SU men were fifth of 15 teams and the No. 7 in the South
women were fifth of 18 as both squad's saw their top finisher set a
new school record in their respective distances.
Freshman Ryan Taylor
posted 25:44 over the men's 8000 meter distance, breaking the
record set by Josiah Renton at
Salisbury on the opening Saturday of this season.
Taylor was eighth of 183 runners in the event.
Renton finished three seconds behind Taylor, in 10th place, with
Jake Garcia
rounding out the men's top three racers with a 27:07, 51st place
showing.
On the women's side, junior Amy Smith and senior Jennie Ott both
cracked the previous school 6K record.
Smith was third overall, and the top Division III finisher, with
a 22:22 and Ott 10th at 22:36.
Sophomore Tracey Swope crossed
third for the Hornet women at 23:35. She was 37th overall.
Division II East Stroudsburg won both the men's and women's
meets.
The men and women are back on the course next Saturday to host
the Hornet Harrier Invitational at Kernstown Battlefield.
