Cross Country 2026 Season Preview

Women Ranked 8th in Region; Men Ranked 9th

WINCHESTER, Va. - The 2026 season for the Shenandoah University men's and women's cross country teams starts in just over 24 hours as the Hornets head to Bridgewater College for an evening race on Tuesday in the first event of the season.

This year's Hornets' teams feature 16 runners on the men's side and 14 for the women, including 2025 All-Region and All-ODAC runner Maddy Chorney.

The Hornets also return Emilie Gaudron, Emily Bultema, Sarah Lane, Grace Semow, Brayden Shotwell, Zack Hamacher, Will Ashley, Caleb Beiswenger, Kyle Corpin, and Ethan Beaugez, who all scored team points in last year's conference championship.

In the preseason USTFCCCA regional rankings, the SU women are eighth, and the men are ninth. Each team rose in the regional rankings, compared to last year's final results, which saw the women 10th and the men 14th.

The Hornets are under the direction of 21st-year head coach Andrew Marrocco and assistant coaches Sam Martin, Mackenzie Plowman '24, '26, and Sarah Christy '25. This year's SU program captains are Beiswenger for the men and Kailey Lamont for the women.

Shenandoah is set to run in seven meets this fall, leading up to NCAA Regionals, including two regular-season home meets and the ODAC Championships, which are held at the Hornets' home course, Kernstown Battlefield.
