CARLISLE, Pa. –The Shenandoah University men's and
women's cross country teams returned to action this Saturday
with a pair of strong performances at the Dickinson College
Long/Short Invitational.
The No. 7 in the South women finished were 12th in
the combined after posting 17th in the short (4K) event
and 12th place showings in the long (6K) while the men
were eighth in their short.
The SU men did not run anyone in their long (8K) event and thus
only posted a team score in one of the three categories.
There were 26 women's and 26 men's teams at the
meet.
Junior Amy Smith paced the Hornet women by finishing
12th of 142 runners in the 6K with a time of 23:59.
Sophomores Roni Frye and Tracey Swope backed Smith up by
finishing 52nd and 59th overall with 25:21
and 26:07, respectively.
Teams scored three runners in each category.
In the women's 4K, senior Jennie Ott was 14th
of 203 runners with a 15:20, classmate Brandi Sobanko
99th at 17:13 and freshman Ashley Stewart
144th with an 18:06.
On the men's side, the entire squad ran in the 4K
event.
Shenandoah captured its eighth place finish, defeating
conference rival Christopher Newport, with a 23rd place
showing from Josiah Renton, a 33rd from Ryan Taylor and
a 64th from Jake Garcia.
Renton ran a 12:41, Taylor a 12:54 and Garcia 13:26. There were
211 runners in the 4K race.
SU is back in action in two weeks at the Don Cathcart
Invitational hosted by Salisbury University.
