Women's Soccer Dominates Goucher

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team dominated from start to finish in a 5-0 non-league win over Goucher College Thursday evening.

Shenandoah (1-2) saw six different women, led by Emily Yergin's hat trick, place their names on the scoresheet in earning its first win of the season. Goucher (2-1) was held to just one shot in the contest.

02′ | Emily Yergin created some space for herself and put her shot in the back of the net.

07′ | Abbie Marquette scored off a 25-yard free kick.

20′ | Freshman Olivia Churchman scored her first collegiate goal after redirecting a rebound of a Rebecca Collimore shot.

34′ | Allison Spaziani led Yergin into the box, who then was able to squeeze one past Goucher goalie Erica Bulzomi for her second of the night.  

36′ | Yergin scored her third of the night thanks to a Jordan Riser assist

"Overall, a good performance by the team," head coach Liz Pike said. "This gives us some confidence going into another tough weekend. Yergin had a nice hat trick."

UP NEXT

SU heads to Ohio for the weekend, taking on Kenyon on Saturday and Denison on Sunday. Both games are set for 1 p.m. starts.

MATCH NOTES

  • Yergin's hat trick is the third of her career and the first since tallying three goals and one assist at Randolph College on October 5, 2016

  • Yergin is now two points from tying for fourth all-time on the scoring list

  • The shutout is the first for SU since blanking Emory & Henry 3-0 on October 29, 2017.

  • This was the first meeting between SU and Goucher in women's soccer.

  • Courtney Stull '14, a four-year player for the Hornets, is in her first year as an assistant coach for the Gophers.

  • The game started 38 minutes late as a result of lightning in the area.

  • Goalkeepers Autumn Delellis and Anna Jacobson shared the shutout. Delellis had one save.
