WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team celebrated its return to competition with a 75-72 exhibition victory over Mary Baldwin Wednesday afternoon.
Playing for the first time in 354 days, the Hornets used an 12-0 run midway through the second half to take a lead over the Fighting Squirrels that they would not relinquish.

Trailing 44-38 after Brandon Cottrell made a pair from the line for MBU with 13:43 remaining, SU scored the game's next 12 points to lead 49-44 at the 10:55 mark.
Junior
Zach Garrett got the run started with a three-point play on the ensuing possession following Cottrell's free throws before snagging a defensive rebound and feeding senior
Avery White for a game-tying '3'.
Another White '3', this one off a turnover, put Shenandoah on top to stay.
Trammel Anthony had a fast break bucket off of a
Davion Roberts assist before Roberts completed the run by making one of two from the line.
The lead reached 10 with 5:39 to play following an
Andres Frye layup, but the Squirrels had one final answer.
MBU got as close as one point, 73-72, in the final minute only to see Garrett ice the contest by knocking down two free throws at the 30-second mark.
Mary Baldwin missed two potential game-tying 3-point attempts in the final 14 seconds.
Garrett led the victors with 20 points while White added 13, Anthony 11 and Frye 10.
Garrett also had a team-high nine rebounds to go along with six assists.
