WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Hampden-Sydney used a solid shooting performance Saturday afternoon to down Shenandoah University, 76-54, in ODAC men's basketball action at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.

Hampden-Sydney (10-4, 5-1 ODAC) shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the first half to pull away from Shenandoah (2-10, 0-4).

Seven of the Tigers 17 first half field goals were from beyond the arc as H-SC took a 42-25 lead into the half. SU shot 32 percent (10 of 31) in that same span.

A 5-1 run to start the second allowed the visitors to carry the momentum over the break and Hampden-Sydney first pushed its lead past 20 points on a bucket 4:50 into the half.

The Hornets continued to battle, however, and kept the margin around 20 points until H-SC scored eight straight points in a 75 second span that gave the Tigers a 58-32 lead with 10:50 remaining.

The lead stayed above 20 until an SU run that started with a
Joshua Stephen 3-pointer at 6:53 and ended with a pair of
Malik Jordan free throws 1:40 later made it 64-46 in Hampden-Sydney's favor.

Shenandoah continued to chip away at the deficit, eventually cutting it to 15 (69-54), before H-SC scored the final seven points of the contest.

Jordan led the Hornets with 14 points with
Mekhi Mims adding 12.

Hampden-Sydney had three scorers in double figures with Ayman McGowan hitting five 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 15 points.

SU ended up shooting 30 percent (19 of 63) for the game with H-SC connecting on 46 percent (30 of 65) of its attempts.
