WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team goes 2-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2007-08 season with a 79-71 home win versus Roanoke College on Saturday night.
The Hornets (7-0, 2-0 ODAC) were led to the victory over the Maroons (3-3, 0-2) behind 24 points from
Evan Makle, who went 7-10 from behind the arc.
RECAP
Shenandoah fell behind early, 6-3, as Roanoke made three consecutive shots, two of which came in the paint.
Jaylen Williams put SU in the lead with back-to-back layups but the Maroons didn't let that bother them as they'd once again lead, 14-7.
Makle made one of his three-pointers to bring the Hornets within one as Williams would make two shots from the line to put his squad up one. After another three from Makle,
Nic Pullum converted a monstrous dunk to give SU a 27-24 advantage.
Nick Doyle's team never handed the lead back following the dunk.
With time expiring in the first half, Williams launched a shot from downtown that hit nothing but net at the buzzer to give Shenandoah the 39-35 lead at the half.
Pullum made three shots in the paint to start the second half as Shenandoah tried to pull ahead. The center finished with 18 points as he went a perfect 9-9 in the game.
Williams pick-pocketed a ball right from the hands of Roanoke and sprinted down the court, laying down a hammer of a dunk putting SU up by eight.
Joseph Baldwin got up and hit a putback dunk bringing the crowd to life.
Williams would later feed a pass right to the hands of Baldwin who got right back up to the rim for another dunk.
Shenandoah closed out the game with two made free throws from
Malik Jordan, closing out the eight-point win.
This snaps a 13-game losing streak to Roanoke and continues the Hornets' best start in program history.
