HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Shenandoah University women's tennis team continued its spring break trip Tuesday with a 6-3 non-league loss to Principia (Ill.) College.
The Hornets (2-5) took the early lead with an 8-4 victory from
Erin Talko and
Madison Shawver at No. 3 doubles, but the Panthers (9-3) answered back.
IN BRIEF
PC won the top two doubles matches, winning 8-6 at No. 1 and 8-3 at No. 2, before clinching with victories at Nos. 2, 3, and 4 singles.
Jahveesha Combs, playing No. 1, had tied the match for SU with a 6-2, 6-1 victory before Principia got those three singles victories.
The match clincher at No. 4 took three sets with Veronica Volkart outlasting
Jada Lewis in a 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) victory.
Talko was a double-winner for the Hornets after taking out Ruth Hummel by 6-1, 6-1 score at No. 5.

The women complete this spring break trip with a 9 a.m. match Friday morning versus Ramapo (N.J.).
