Four School Records Set at Kaye & JJ Smith Invitational

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's and women's indoor track and field teams set four school records while delivering strong performances at the Kaye & JJ Smith Invitational on Sunday. The women's team placed third, while the men finished fourth overall.  

RECAP

Mekhi Mims led the men's squad by setting a new school record in the high jump with a clearance of 1.92 meters. Additionally, the men's 4x1600m relay team established a program-best time of 18:57.59.  

On the women's side, two school records were broken. The 4x1600m relay team set a program, facility, and meet record with a time of 22:30.66, while the 4x200m relay team set a new school mark of 1:51.60.  

Alexis Hubbard claimed two event victories for the women's team. She won the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.48 and secured a win in the long jump with a leap of 4.85 meters.  

On the men's side, William Crowder impressed in the 60m dash, finishing second in both the prelims and finals. His finals time of 7.010 seconds was just behind the winning mark of 7.004 seconds.  

Janelle Anderson, part of the record-setting 4x200m relay team, also finished sixth in the women's 60m dash.  

The men's distance squad delivered solid results, with Caleb Beiswenger, Brayden Shotwell, and Ethan Harrower all placing in the top eight of the 3000m race. The women's 3000m event saw four Hornets finish in the top eight, including Makenna Thursh (3rd), Madison Chorney (4th), and Madeline Lotts (5th). Kailey Lamont took seventh, while Sarah Christy narrowly missed earning points with a ninth-place finish.  

Katya Hoover excelled in the field events, winning the women's shot put with a mark of 10.89 meters after securing third in the high jump earlier in the day.  

The meet also saw a wave of personal bests, with eight personal records set on the women's side and 19 for the men. Notably, Kowen Brassfield and Grady Speer each achieved multiple PRs in their respective events.  

UP NEXT

The Hornets will travel for the first time this season as they head to the Cardinal Track & Field Classic, hosted by Catholic University in Landover, Maryland, next Saturday.
