Roanoke Pushes Past Men's Basketball in Second Half

SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team dropped a 70-52 decision on the road to Roanoke College in ODAC play on Saturday afternoon.

The Maroons (13-3, 7-1 ODAC) pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Hornets (6-11, 1-7 ODAC) by 13 points after a competitive first half kept Shenandoah within striking distance.

RECAP

Both teams scored on their opening possessions, with Gavin Bizyak starting his strong offensive performance with a layup to tie the game at 2–2. Roanoke responded with five unanswered points, but Joshua Stephen countered with a three-pointer and a jumper to tie the game once more.

The Maroons then launched a 14–2 run to build a 12-point lead midway through the first half. Dorian Davis halted the run by scoring five of Shenandoah's next seven points, cutting the deficit to seven.

Shenandoah's defense held strong, preventing Roanoke from extending its lead back to double digits for the remainder of the half. Stephen connected on his second three-pointer to bring the Hornets within two points, the closest SU would come for the rest of the game.

The second half opened with a quick three-pointer from Roanoke just 10 seconds in, but Bizyak and Davis responded with back-to-back baskets to pull Shenandoah within four at 34–30. However, a two-minute scoring burst from the Maroons restored their double-digit lead, which they maintained for the remainder of the contest.

Roanoke held the Hornets to just five field goals in the final 18 minutes, growing their lead to as many as 21 points to secure the victory.

Bizyak and Davis each led Shenandoah with 16 points, while Bizyak added nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double. Roanoke's defensive effort limited Shenandoah to just six players in the scoring column.
