Men's Basketball Falls at (RV) Hood College

FREDERICK, Md. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team lost 101-75 on Thursday at (RV) Hood College in a non-conference battle.

The Hornets (6-3) only trailed by one at halftime, but the Blazers (7-1) went on a 14-2 run to open up the second half to pull away for victory.

RECAP

The Hornets led in the early going of the game off a three from Dorian Davis and a jumper from Ellis Wright. Wright provided the team with six more points over the next five minutes to give SU a 19-17 lead after Hood gained the lead momentarily.

With the game now tied at 21, Seth Sanusi converted a shot from the charity stripe and immediately made a layup to give SU a three-point cushion. However, just minutes later, back-to-back threes from the home team gave them a six-point lead with 6:43 remaining in the first half.

Hood's lead didn't last long as Wright scored the next seven points of the game, which pushed the lead back in Shenandoah's favor. With roughly two minutes left in the first, fastbreak buckets from Davis and Isaiah Lee gave the Hornets a 39-35 lead. Hood ended the first half on a 7-2 run to regain the lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

Two threes in the early portion of the second half aided Hood's 14-2 run over the first four minutes of the frame. The Blazers then gained a 22-point lead after hitting three consecutive shots from downtown.

Wright, Davis, and Andrew Ford scored for SU to get its deficit back under 20 points, but Hood answered right back with a 7-0 run to extend their lead and keep the momentum for the rest of the contest.

Wright led the Hornets with 27 points, while Ford added a career-high 15 points.

As a team, Shenandoah had a season-high 20 assists, led by Matthew Simmons' seven.
