Men's Basketball Gets Back to Winning Ways at W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team snapped its six-game losing streak with a 65-52 win at Washington and Lee University on Saturday afternoon in conference play.

The Hornets (7-13, 2-9 ODAC) pulled away in the second half over the Generals (6-13, 4-6) after only leading by one at the half behind a game-high 18 points from Dorian Davis.

RECAP

Washington and Lee didn't make its first field goal of the game until nearly five minutes into the first, which allowed Shenandoah to go up 5-2 on a three from Davis and a tip-in layup by Kendrick Robinson. The Hornets lead extended out to six points on a jumper from John Allen, who led the bench with 10 points.

Later in the half, thanks to five consecutive points from Joshua Stephen, SU was able to get ahead by double digits. The Generals chipped away at the Hornets advantage for the remainder of the frame, as they pulled within two twice in the final minutes. A three-pointer by W&L with seven seconds left in the first cut its deficit down to one at the half.

W&L's push continued at the start of the second as they were able to gain the lead for the first time in the contest at 27-26. Allen and Davis responded for SU and pushed the lead back to their side just moments later.

With 11:32 remaining, SU only led by four but a free throw by Stephen started a 10-1 run for the visitors which pushed them ahead, 51-38. The run featured baskets from Davion Roberts and Landon Russ. Shenandoah finished the game with eight different players finding the scorers column.

For the remainder of the game, Shenandoah only made three more field goals but went to the free throw line and converted seven shots, staying in front of the Generals for the victory.

Shenandoah had a plus-13 margin in rebounds as Jordan Durham led the Hornets with seven boards.
