Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against No. 12 RMC

WINCHESTER, Va. – Despite a late comeback attempt, the Shenandoah University men's basketball team fell 73–60 to No. 12 Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday night in ODAC action.

The Hornets (7–14, 2–10 ODAC) trailed by 14 points with just under 12 minutes remaining but surged back to cut the Yellow Jackets' (18–3, 11–1 ODAC) lead to four with three minutes left. Randolph-Macon responded with back-to-back three-pointers to regain control and secure the 13-point victory.

RECAP

The Yellow Jackets opened the game by scoring on their first possession. Shenandoah quickly answered with a bucket on its opening possession, thanks to two offensive rebounds from Dorian Davis. RMC then went on a 9–2 run, but Davis responded with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 13–7. The Yellow Jackets answered with a three of their own, extending their lead.

The teams traded baskets over the next several minutes as Shenandoah chipped away at the lead. Buckets from Joseph Baldwin, Joshua Stephen, and John Allen kept the Hornets within five, but RMC closed the half on a 9–3 run to take an 11-point lead into halftime.

Randolph-Macon extended its double-digit lead early in the second half, hitting three three-pointers while Shenandoah missed eight shots.

Baldwin sparked a 10–2 Shenandoah run with a block that led to a fast-break layup. Landon Russ added a four-point play, nailing a step-back three-pointer while drawing a foul and converting the free throw.

With 6:19 remaining, the Hornets trailed by six. After an RMC three-pointer, Davis made all three free throws following a shooting foul and later converted a driving layup off an offensive rebound by Shamir Taylor, cutting the deficit to four with 3:10 left.

Randolph-Macon called a timeout and responded with back-to-back three-pointers, pushing the lead back to double digits. The Yellow Jackets' defense held Shenandoah without a field goal for the remainder of the game.

Davis led the Hornets with 19 points, going perfect from both beyond the arc and the free-throw line. Baldwin was just one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 12 points and nine boards.
