Outdoor Track and Field Season Begins at Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Shenandoah University outdoor track and field programs began its 2025 campaign on Thursday at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.

The season started in the field as Katya Hoover placed fifth in the women's javelin throw with a toss of 36.34m. Hoover surpassed 34.20m in five of her six attempts on the day. Mackenzie Plowman finished four spots behind Hoover with a mark of 31.80m, which puts her sixth all-time for the Shenandoah women.

Zak McIntyre and Grady Speer competed in the men's weight throw and placed 17th and 35th, respectively. McIntyre's best distance of the day came on his first attempt at 44.50m. Speers set a personal record on his third attempt with a heave of 34.01m.

Four Hornets ran in the women's 10,000m, with Maddy Chorney wrapping up in second place, and seventh all-time for SU, crossing the finish line at 40:24.00. Sarah Christy came in fourth at 42:20.67. Lauren Tooman placed fifth, finishing just over 1:21 after Christy. Sarah Lane rounded out the Hornets in the event with a seventh-place finish.

Seven Hornets represented the team in the men's 10,000m, for the final event of the day. Ethan Harrower crossed the finish line first for Shenandoah, coming in seventh place at 33:24.16. Harrower is now fourth all-time for the Hornets as Brayden Shotwell's mark of 33:33.24 gives him fifth all-time.

Zack Hamacher and Will Ashley were separated by 0.27 seconds, coming in 15th and 16th place respectively in the event. Caleb Beiswenger and Brenden Maloy ended the day for the Hornets with times of 35:30.35 and 38:07.74.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah remains at the invitational for the next two days with action restarting tomorrow morning.
