Track and Field Concludes First Weekend of Outdoor Season

MYRTLE BEACH, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams concluded action at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Saturday with the men coming in 22nd and the women placing ninth.

In the men's high jump Mekhi Mims tied for 10th with a jump of 1.85m, which was 0.02m off of his personal record, and was the best placement in any field event for the Hornets on the day.

On the track and in the women's 3,000m, Kailey Lamont moved into third all-time for Shenandoah with a time of 10:52.12, while placing fourth in the event. Maddy Chorney came in two spots after Lamont and is now fourth all-time for SU with her mark of 10:53.99. Both runners were less than four seconds off of the program record time.

In the same event on the men's side of the track, Brayden Shotwell crossed the finish line at 9:18.98 for a ninth place finish. Shotwell's time places him fifth all-time for the men. Zack Hamacher is now eighth all-time for the men after his time of 9:33.96.

Grace Semow, Lauren Tooman, and Megan Brophy each moved up spots in the SU women's top-10 in the one mile. All four Hornets in the men's one mile, Ethan Harrower, Kyle Corpin, Nathan Lee, and Shane Lyons, did the same feature as the SU women. Harrower finished first for SU and is now second all-time with a mark of 4:35.28.

Harrower and Caleb Beiswenger placed fourth and ninth, respectively, in the 3,000m steeplechase. Harrower wrapped up the event in 10:03.73 while Beiswenger finished at 10:28.98.

Throughout the all three days of the invitational, 53 personal records were set for Shenandoah, between first time entries in an event and those defeating previous marks.

The Hornets head to a meet at Christopher Newport University next Saturday.
