Thrush Sets School Record at CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Makenna Thrush set a school record and the Shenandoah University track and field teams had six event winners at the Christopher Newport University Blue and Silver Challenge on Saturday.

Thrush smashed her previous best time in the women's 1500m event and set the schools record with a time of 4:44.64. Thrush placed first and is now 35th in Division III in the event. Running along side Thrush were seven Hornets who were competing in the event for the first time, including Kailey Lamont who came in sixth.

Thrush also won the 800m with a finishing time of 2:23.94, setting a new PR and moving into seventh all-time for the women.

William Crowder was the lone winner on the men's side, winning the 200m with a mark of 22.26.

Taylor McIntyre is now sixth all-time for the women after winning the 400m hurdles with a mark of 1:14.93. Wyatt Newcome is now eighth all-time for the men with a time of 1:01.75 in the same event.

Katya Hoover won a pair of events. Hoover jumped 1.48m in the high jump for the victory and hit 34.75m in the javelin for first place.

Caleb Beiswenger set a PR and is now in eighth place all-time for the Hornets in the 3,000m steeplechase with a mark of 10:24.73.

In the field for the men, Grady Speer set a new PR and broke into the top 10 for SU all-time with a heave of 12.13m in the shot put.

Overall on the day for SU, 29 PRs were set on the men's side while 20 were broken for the women. Shenandoah had 17 top-five finishers at the meet.

UP NEXT

The Hornets compete in the Colonial Relays next weekend at William and Mary.
