Thrush Breaks Record at Third Consecutive Meet

Hornets Set 16 PRs on Friday

LYNCHBURG, Va. - For the third consecutive meet, Makeena Thrush set a program record as the Shenandoah University track and field programs participated in day one of the Dennis Craddock Invitational at the University of Lynchburg on Friday.

Thrush set the program record in the women's one mile with a time of 5:04.43, smashing the previous record of 5:34.28. Not only did Thrush surpass the previous record, but Madeline Lotts also passed the record and sits second all-time now for SU with a mark of 5:15.09 on Friday.

Cora Helman, Kailey Lamont, and Lauren Tooman each set PRs in the women's 5,000m as Helman set her previous best by over two and a half minutes. Lamont's time of 18:16.27 places her third all-time for the SU women.

The strong day continued for the women on the track as Megan Brophy, Maddy Chorney, Sarah Lane, Adelia Robitz, and Grace Semow also set PRs in the 1,500m. Of the seven Hornets to race in the event, Amy Oleksy had the best finish with a finishing mark of 5:00.02.

Over in the field, Katya Hoover finished second in the women's javelin with a mark of 34.65m. The field athlete also placed eighth in the hammer with a toss of 35.70m.

On the men's side of the track, Brayden Shotwell earned the fourth all-time best time for Shenanodoah in the 5,000m, crossing the finish line at 15:39.61 in his first attempt at the event. Caleb Beiswenger set a PR in the race and is now 10th all-time for SU with his mark of 16:04.44. Zack Hamacher rounded out the event with a PR of his own.

With a time of 33:51.94, Will Ashley set a PR and placed eighth in the men's 10,000m, while also breaking into the SU top-10. Theo Beyer finished a few spots behind Ashley and also set a PR.

Rounding out the six PRs set on Friday for the men, Nathan Lee ran a 4:13.39 in the 1,500m event, surpassing his previous best by seven seconds.
